NEW JERSEY – Hudson County’s bike share program, Hudson Bike Share, is expanding into two additional municipalities beyond Hudson County borders and will now fall under the umbrella of JerseyBike – a unified brand and single-membership state-wide system.

Launched in Hoboken in October of 2015 with 250 bicycles, the program has since expanded to include multiple Hudson County municipalities including Bayonne, Weehawken, West New York, Guttenberg, North Bergen, as well as Port Imperial and a trial period with the NJ State Park Service at Liberty State Park.

The managing partner of the program, P3 Global Management – a subsidiary of European Parking & Smart Mobility leader EYSA – has announced the addition of Point Pleasant Beach Bike Share and Woodbridge Bike Share.

JerseyBike will serve as the unifying brand connecting Hudson Bike Share with Point Pleasant Beach, Woodbridge, and future cities as the program continues to expand. JerseyBike riders will have single-membership universal access throughout the program, which consists of over 650 bicycles.

The program in Hudson County continues to grow not only geographically, but in rides and membership as well. Since its inception in October 2015, Hudson Bike Share has provided over 400,000 rides to over 24,000 users.

Current Hudson Bike Share members will gain access to the Woodbridge and Point Pleasant Beach Bike Share programs upon official launch of the respective systems.

“It’s wonderful to see how successful the bike share program has become since it launched in Hoboken almost three years ago,” said Hoboken Mayor Ravinder S. Bhalla. “This single-membership bike share program is a huge benefit to Hoboken residents who want a low-cost alternative to driving around town, wherever they may be.”

“The bike share program continues to break monthly participation records here in West New York,” said Mayor Felix E. Roque, M.D. “We are proud to promote a healthy lifestyle and a convenient, environmentally-friendly alternative for our residents to get around Town.”

“The City of Bayonne is very happy to welcome the bike share program to our community,” said Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis. “It will provide a convenient transportation option for our residents and visitors. We are glad to work with the program to provide several bike locations throughout our city. JerseyBike is another sign that Bayonne is a city on the go!”

“Point Pleasant Beach is proud to be the first shore town to welcome JerseyBike” said Mayor Stephen Reid. “JerseyBike’s connective vision for the state, providing riders with one seamless, single-membership program, aligns with our goal of providing a convenient system for riders.”

JerseyBike partners with nextbike, a bike share company that operates in over 125 cities in 25 countries around the globe.

Users can register online or download the nextbike app. The cost of the program is $95 per year or $12.95 a month and includes unlimited 45-minute trips. Riders can also choose a pay-as-you-go option for $2 per 30-minute ride. The expansion of the program will allow access to a greater number of New Jersey residents while providing a strong and reliable service for users of all types.

Riders can use a smart phone or key card to unlock bicycles at any of the stations in the system. Once rented, the user will be given a code to unlock the bike and begin their 30 or 45-minute ride. The highlight of the system is the ability to park the bikes temporarily, as well as the ability for users to end their trip at a station that is already full. This feature, which is lacking in prior-generation bike sharing models, allows users to make stops mid-trip and eliminates the frustration of arriving at an already full station.

Suez Water, CarePoint Health, Investors Bank, Keller Williams Realty and Lyft support Hudson Bike Share.
