NEW JERSEY –  Hudson County’s bike share program, JerseyBike, alongside Don’t Sit Home, is hosting an event to distribute reusable bags to the community in Hoboken on January 15, 2019 from 6 pm – 8 pm, at Union Hall, Hoboken.

JerseyBike and Don’t Sit Home are proud to support Mayor Bhalla, the City Council, Hoboken Green Team in the single use carry-out plastic bag ban set to take effect on January 22, 2019.

The reusable bag giveaways are aimed to encourage local residents to help Hoboken’s local environment by bringing reusable bags for all shopping trips, including grocery shopping and daily use.

The ban of single use carry-out plastic bags directly correlates to JerseyBike’s goal of environmental awareness and passion for sustainable cities. In its first three years, JerseyBike has saved over 15,000 gallons of gasoline and provided a reduction of over 305,000 pounds of CO2.

The plastic bag ban was adopted to help reduce Hoboken’s production of plastic bag waste and impact to the local environment and Hudson River. On average, an individual uses 500 single-use plastic bags each year. 80% of the plastic and trash in the oceans comes from the land.
